Transport network in Cracow
Do you want to see all the magnificent monuments in Cracow? You have several opportunities. Unfortunately, when you prefer sightseeing on foot you’ll only get a chance to visit The Wawel Hill, The Old Town or The Market Square. So we advise you to take a cub, use some means of public transport or hire own car, or if one prefer an active sightseeing – a bike.
But there are several traps with moving around Cracow. First we should be cautious when we take a taxi. It’s better not to take the one which is standing in the row on the street because it may cost you a fortune. Okay maybe not that much but at least 30 % more than when you would take the one ordered by your mobile phone. If you are a foreigner afraid of taking a trusted taxi you can read about these services online and you can even book your ride.
The next option is hiring a car, which is extremely convenient and cost-effective way to travel around Cracow. But sometimes foreigners find it difficult to ride through Polish streets because of unimaginable traffic jams and a growing number of young road hogs.
What is more, parking in the Old Town is severely restricted and traffic wardens are not so willing to understand you’re a foreign tourist. Of course hiring a car is especially beneficial when we want to go outside Cracow, e.g. to visit Auschwitz. But if you don’t want to risk your nerves, health and even life you should rather use public transport.
Getting around by public transport is really cheap, especially when we’re allowed to discounts. The only thing you must care about is buying a bus or tram ticket. There are a lot of places in which you can buy them, e.g. in so called kiosks. What’s surprising all rides cost the same and it’s not depending on distance. But wait a minute! Don’t forget to keep your ticket till you get out of bus or tram. Otherwise you’ll have to pay a fee.
We have also good news for those who want to move quickly, avoid traffic jams and save up some money. Tourists may hire bikes in special designated places. If you want to sightsee and lose weight it’s an ideal option for you.
