The most impressive historic artefacts
Cracow was the capital of Poland until the end of XVIth century. Then Warsaw assumed the mantle of power, but many still believe that Cracow has some kind of magic which makes it more attractive than big and crowded financial Warsaw. It’s said that Cracow is a heart of Poland. It occupies the fourth position on the list in terms of the largest Polish cities. This city has some historical value because many beautiful historic artefacts are located there.
For example, we all know that the one of the most prestigious universities in Poland is located in Cracow. There are many foreigners who study at Jagiellonian University, which was established in 1364 by Casimir III the Great. It’s the oldest university in Poland and the second oldest university in Central Europe. As we can see Cracow has a kind of magic and many people are simply smitten by its beauty.
The next important historic places are Wawel Castle and one of Europe’s largest market squares. They are both located in a medieval city centre, which is one of the greatest in the world. Those who are interested in sightseeing may visit a complex of historic buildings located on Wawel Hill. Here we can visit The Royal Castle and the Wawel Cathedral. Of course it’s only the beginning of amazing adventure that you can experience.
When one is sick and tired of sightseeing boring museums, The Market Square is waiting for us with open hands. It’s worth mentioning that the Main Market Square was initiated just after location of the city, which was conducted by the prince of Cracow – Boleslaw Wstydliwy in 1257. It was first intended for the local merchants and those who traveled through our country because of many existing trade routes. It facilitated the process of goods exchange and many people were able to sell and buy some products.
When we are visiting Cracow we shouldn’t omit The Old Town, which is declared a World Heritage Site. We should also visit Corpus Christi Church, St Mary’s Church, Sukiennice, The monument of Adam Mickiewicz, Kosciuszko’s Mound and Planty Gardens. But if you are interested in WWII and holocaust we strongly recommend you a trip to The Auschwitz Death Camp. You can travel by bus, which is the quickest way to get there.
